Conductor

Iñigo Pirfano was born in Bilbao (Spain) in 1973. He studied musical theory, piano and harmony while he was studying his M.A. in Philosophy at ‘Universidad Complutense’ in Madrid.

Since september 1997, he studied at Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria) “Musikleitung” (Orchestral, Choral and Opera Conducting) with Professor Karl Kamper; “Korrepetition” with Professor Wolfgang Niessner and Piano with Professor Karl Wagner. Finally, he took there a Conducting Diploma with Distinguished grade -'Auszeichnung'- In june 1997, he conducted successfully the Extraordinary Concert in the 'Schloss Frohnburg' in Salzburg's Mozarteum. There, he interpreted works by Stravinsky and Falla and he premièred works by young composers of the Mozarteum's 'Seminar für neue Musik'. Then, he continued his studies with Sir Colin Davis in Dresden and with Kurt Masur in Detmold (Germany). 

As a Composer, in 1997, he was in charge of composing, orchestrating and conducting the Original Soundtrack of the film 'El Sudor de los Ruiseñores', which granted him a nomination for the award to the Best Original Musical Score given by the Spanish Institution of Film Writers, of the 1998 edition. After that, in 2000, he released his work 'Quatre Alcools' for Mezzosoprano and Orchestra in the Spanish Theatre of the 'Círculo de Bellas Artes' in Madrid. Recently, he was commissioned to compose the Fandango de Don Quixote, the oficial musical theme for the 400th anniversary Don Quixote of the Mancha by the Spanish state-owned company "Don Quijote de la Mancha 2005".

All his work as an Orchestra Conductor has been developed in Austria, Germany, Poland and Spain -in the cities of Madrid, San Sebastián, Valencia, Bilbao, etc- where he has conducted different Orchestras and Chamber Music groups like the ‘Salzburger Frohnburg Ensemble’, ‘Dresdner Hochschulorchester Carl Maria von Weber’, ‘Orchestra of the Competition Jugend Musiziert’ (Germany), ‘Orquestra Filharmónica de la Universitat de Valencia’, unanimously praised by critics and public alike. In april 2002, he made his operistic debut with the production of Manuel de Falla's 'Retablo de Maese Pedro' (Master Peter’s Puppet Show), as part of the tribute given by the Spanish Institution 'Círculo de Bellas Artes' to the worldwide known Miguel de Cervantes' literary figure, Don Quixote. He is founder and Principal Conductor of 'Orquesta Académica de Madrid'. With them, he has performed in the last years more than 70 concerts.
